Zabarte, who is closing her four years at Georgia State playing the best golf of her career, is tied for fifth after making three birdies during the opening round. She is just two strokes off the lead with 36 holes to play.

The Panthers sit at 31-over par following a 90-minute delay to start the morning after multiple inches of rain fell on the course last night.

“I’m so proud of Paula as she is finishing her days at Georgia State playing the best golf of her career,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “As a team, we didn’t play the way we wanted to today, but there is still a lot of golf left and time for us to climb the leaderboard.”

Freshman Chloe Howard shot an opening round 76 and is tied for 18th at 5-over par. Sophomore Harmanprit Kaur is tied for 30th at 9-over following a round of 80 on Sunday.

Coastal Carolina leads by two-strokes at 13-over par following the first round of play. Georgia Southern is in second-place at 15-over par with Troy in third at 16-over. Appalachian State and UT Arlington are tied for fourth at 23-over par.

Troy’s Lindsey Harrison and Georgia Southern’s Julianna Collett are tied for first place at even par.
