MONROE, LA. -- Georgia State dropped a doubleheader at ULM, 9-6 and 11-2 Saturday at Warhawk Field.
The Panthers fall to 22-24, 7-15 in the Sun Belt Conference, while ULM improved to 21-25, 9-14.
The series concludes with a 2 p.m. ET game Sunday.
GAME 1: ULM 9, Georgia State 6
ULM scored seven runs in the first four innings and then held on for a 9-6 victory over Georgia State in the first game of a doubleheader.
The Panthers manufactured a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but ULM put up two in the first, three in the second and one each in the third and fourth off to take a 7-1 lead off GSU starter Hunter Gaddis (7-3).
Trailing 9-3 entering the ninth inning, Georgia State scored three runs and had the tying run at the plate. After Romero Greer led off with a walk and Kendall Ford singled, Justin Jones doubled down the left field line to score one run. The second run scored on a groundout by Nick Gatewood, his second RBI of the game. Will Kilgore doubled in Jones to pull the Panthers within 9-6, and after Kalen Puckett drew a walk, the tying run came to the plate, but ULM closer Keegan Curtis came on to record the final two outs.
Freshman Andrew Keene, playing for injured Brandon Bell, hit his first homer with a solo shot to lead off the seventh inning. Kilgore was 3-for-5 with an RBI in the game, while Keene and Jones had two hits each.
GAME 2: ULM 11, Georgia State 2
Georgia State fell 11-2 to ULM in the second game of their Sun Belt Conference doubleheader at Warhawk Field.
With the Warhawks leading 4-0 after three innings, Georgia State cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth. Justin Jones led off with a double and scored on a wild pitch, and Jack Thompson delivered an RBI single to pull the Panthers within 4-2.
But ULM answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and cruised to the victory.
