ATLANTA – The Georgia State men’s soccer team will take the pitch for the first time this season Saturday evening, as the Panthers host NAIA power Truett-McConnell for their first of three exhibitions.

GSU is primed for another successful season after earning runner-up in both the regular season and Sun Belt Tournament last year. The Panthers led the conference in both shutouts and goals allowed in 2017 and are on pace to put up similar numbers with the majority of their back line returning.

Reigning Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year and 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List nominee Kyle Clinton returns, as well as all-conference honorees Hannes Burmeister, Max Hemmings and Liam Fitzsimmons. Forwards Frank Rosenwald and Javen Palmer are also back for Georgia State and aim to carry over their offensive production from last season.

The Panthers added 10 freshmen to the roster during the offseason to mesh with the 16 returning players and round out the 26-man roster.

Truett-McConnell won the 2017 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament and finished the year ranked No. 22 in the NAIA after posting a 16-4-2 record. The Bears bring back a number of key returners, including 2017 AAC Player of the Year Joao Costa. Costa led the country in total goals, total points, shots per game and shots on goal per game last season. Saturday will be the first meeting between Truett-McConnell and Georgia State.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex.  All home matches at the GSU Soccer Complex will be free admission and parking for fans.
