SASSUOLO, Italy – Former Georgia State women’s soccer standout and current pro Siobhan Wilson has signed with the Italian pro team Sassuolo Calcio Femminile, joining the Serie A women’s club after a year-long stint with Málaga CF Femenino in Spain.
Wilson joined Sassuolo after helping lead Málaga CF to a First Division promotion in Spain and a return to the Copa de la Reina, a premier annual cup for Spanish women’s association soccer teams. The former Panther made five appearances and totaled 213 minutes on the pitch for Málaga.
She will join a Sassuolo back line that has conceded 16 goals in 12 matches this season and currently sits in sixth place in the league standings. Wilson, an accomplished defender with experience on multiple levels of women’s soccer, can be a reliable piece to reinforce the defensive scheme of head coach Gianpiero Piovani. She will take another step forward in her career as Serie A is the highest-level league for women's soccer in Italy.
Wilson rounded out her collegiate career at GSU with seven appearances and six starts to accumulate over 500 minutes on the pitch in 2017. The London, England, native finished her senior season with team-high three assists and scored her first goal as a Panther against Little Rock on Oct. 22.
