Record-Setting Year for Georgia State Athletics

ATLANTA?The Georgia State athletics program recorded its highest point total and earned its best finish ever in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup final 2008-09 standings, announced Monday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Georgia State amassed 137 points to place at No. 125 in the nation out of approximately 350 schools in NCAA Division I. That put State third among Colonial Athletic Association schools, behind No. 94 James Madison and No. 117 William and Mary. There are 342 Division I schools, meaning Georgia State is in the top 37% and ahead of 63% of the competing schools.

The previous best showing for Georgia State was 2000-01, when the Panthers collected 100.5 points and placed No. 137.

Georgia State earned points based on the NCAA appearances by the Panther baseball, women's tennis and men's and women's golf programs.

The Directors' Cup program measures all-around success by awarding points for a school's NCAA finish in up to 10 men's and 10 women's sports.
