Fla. State & Ga. Tech Coming To Sports Arena

ATLANTA (July 1, 2009) – Georgia State women's basketball is announcing its 11-game non-league schedule that includes home games against top 20-ranked Florida State on Sunday, Nov. 22 and with NCAA tournament team and cross town rival Georgia Tech on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Head coach Lea Henry's Panthers will host a pair of tournaments in the Sports Arena over two holidays. A Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27-28 will bring in 20-win Murray State of the Ohio Valley Conference, Troy of the Sun Belt Conference and Morgan State of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

The 16th annual Georgia State Invitational will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 29-30 with Mississippi Valley State, UT-Martin and Maryland Eastern Shore.

With seven home games and four road games, the Panthers other home game will be Saturday, Dec. 12 against Nicholls State of the Southland Conference.

The women will open the season on Saturday, Nov. 14 just up I-75 at Kennesaw State, a 15-14 squad last season in the Atlantic Sun.

The Panthers will make a two-game northern trip on Dec. 16-18 to play at Delaware State on Wednesday and then at Iona in metro New York City on Dec. 18. State will also make a road trip to Presbyterian (S.C.) on Dec. 5.
State will play its 18 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) games in January through March with the annual tournament being held March 11-14 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. The CAA has been ranked among the top 10 women's conferences for the past three years with two teams earning NCAA bids and one team a WNIT bid last year.

The CAA nine home opponents will be George Mason, James Madison, Old Dominion, Northeastern, Towson, VCU, Drexel, UNC Wilmington and William and Mary. The CAA nine road opponents will be Delaware, Hofstra, George Mason, James Madison, Old Dominion, Northeastern, Towson, VCU and UNC Wilmington. Those dates will be announced later in the summer by the league office.

Head coach Lea Henry's 16th year at Georgia State will see her welcome back eight returning letterwinners and four starters to go with a talented recruiting class that includes a junior college all-america player.
