Barbaree Joins Coaching Staff

ATLANTA (July 2, 2009) - Georgia State University women's basketball head coach Lea Henry has announced the hiring of assistant coach Jonathon “J.B.” Barbaree.

Barbaree, who spent the last four years as an assistant coach at Furman, had spent the previous nine years on the staff with Georgia College and State University women's basketball program.

The 33-year old Barbaree is an Atlanta native and graduate of Rockdale County High School in Conyers, Ga. He received his undergraduate degree in business management and his master's degree at GCSU.

Coach Barbaree was a full-time assistant coach for four years after serving two as a graduate assistant and three as a student assistant at GCSU prior to Furman and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament as Peach Belt Tournament champions in two of his final three years. The Lady Bobcats of GCSU reached the Sweet Sixteen in 2004.

“J.B.” is a tremendous and welcome addition to our staff,” Coach Henry said. “His basketball recruiting experience in the area and his court knowledge will benefit our Georgia State program immediately. Blending him on the staff with Hall of Famer Bridgette Gordon and former Panther player Dee Dee Merriweather gives us a strong staff.”
