Boston (Feb. 16) - Northeastern knocked down 13 three-point baskets to pace the host Huskies to a 76-51 win over Georgia State Thursday night in a Colonial Athletic Association game.
The Huskies (5-20, 3-11), who were No. 18 in the nation averaging 7.2 three's per game, made 13 of their 31 attempts tonight. Guard Deanna Kerkoff co-led the hosts with 19 points and five three-pointers, while forward Christine Huber also scored 19. The Huskies were also hot at the free throw line, making 17-of-20 charity tosses at an 85 per cent rate.
Georgia State (7-18, 1-13) got 12 points off the bench from freshman center Alana Beroth on 5-of-8 field goals, while Chan Harris added eight rebounds, five points and five steals. Cody Paulk added eight more points, but got in early foul trouble.
The key run in the game came with Northeastern leading 51-44 with 12:19 left. The Huskies knocked down three straight treys and went on a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to make it 64-44 with 9:33 left. Northeastern made five three-pointers to start the second half before getting a lay-up at the 10-minute mark for their first two-point basket of the second half.
Georgia State averages 21 turnovers a game and hurt themselves again tonight with 20 turnovers. The rebounding totals were an even 38 per team, with Georgia State grabbing 17 offensive boards.
The visiting Panthers shot just 29 per cent in the second half and 32.8 per cent for the game.
Georgia State stays on the road to play at George Mason on Sunday afternoon in a TV game on Comcast at 12 noon.
