Ben McLane made his move to become the starting quarterback with a strong spring practice session. The redshirt freshman worked last year with the Panthers and moved up the depth chart after all the spring practice sessions.

The 6-1, 210-pounder was the starting quarterback for the state champion Brookwood Broncos during his senior year of 2010 as he passed for 2,346 yards (hitting 60 percent) with 17 touchdown passes. He finished his prep career as Brookwood's all-time passing leader with 4,747 yards and 35 TD passes. Dad was on the sidelines as an assistant coach at Brookwood.

Ben made his move into the GSU classrooms as well, making the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for students with a GPA of 3.2 or higher. The athletic bar has been set high in the McLane house as his sister, Courtney, was a star tennis player at Alabama and just graduated in the spring as a first-team Academic All-American. As a player, Courtney was part of the winningest doubles team in Alabama school history, ranking in the top 20 and advancing to the final round of 16 at the NCAA National Championships.
