Tuesday Update - After a second-round 78 on Tuesday, GSU rising junior Laura Sanchez will miss the two-day cut to advance to the match play part of the 112th U.S. Amateur being played in Cleveland, Ohio.
Sanchez had 12 pars in Tuesday's 78 on the tough Country Club of Cleveland course. She finished the two days with a 164 score in the first-ever appearance by a GSU female golfer in this historic event.
The native of Colombia will have two more years with the GSU golf team of Coach Cathy Mant.
Sunday - GSU rising junior Laura Sanchez will tee off Monday in the 112th U.S. Amateur in Cleveland, Ohio.
Sanchez, the first GSU golfer to ever qualify for this event, will tee off at the Country Club of Cleveland, Ohio at 1:10 p.m.
The talented field of 156 golfers will play 36 holes Monday and Tuesday with the top 64 then moving on for match play days starting on Wednesday.
Sanchez, who qualified for this event earlier this summer at Eagle's Landing in Stockbridge, will play on this historic Cleveland course that dates back to 1889.
She will be in a threesome with two other college golfers: Ani Gulugian from UCLA and Amy Meier from Ohio State.
Sanchez is from Bogota, Colombia. She played in all 10 events for GSU last year as a sophomore with a best-round score of one-par under 71. Sanchez earned All-America Scholar honors as a finance major.
