Freshman Sydney Hunsley, who was named to the All-Tournament team, led the Panthers offensively with seven kills and fellow rookie Natalia Nieto was just one assist shy of a match-high as she posted 15 on the day. Junior libero earned 10 digs on the day. Junior Loren Byerly, sophomore Andrea Ezell, and freshman Eliza Zachary each earned two block assists.
Chloe Buckendahl led the Bulldogs with a match-best eight kills while Kaylee Kehoe led UGA and all participants with 16 assists.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the first set and extended their lead to seven (11-8) on a block by Freeman and Zachary. The Bulldogs rallied, however, outscoring GSU 10-4 to take the first set 25-22.
The Bulldogs took the second set 25-14 by building off an early lead. The Panthers did manage to tie the set at 2-2 thanks to a kill by Hunsley and a service error by UGA. That would be the only tie of the set as the Bulldogs pulled away to take a two-set lead in the match.
Georgia rode a 4-0 opening run to take the third set 25-14.
The Panthers return to action Friday, August 31 as they face Ball State in the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind. GSU will close out play in Indianapolis with two matches on Saturday, September, 1. GSU faces IUPUI at 12:30 p.m. before facing future Sun Belt foe North Texas at 4:30 p.m.
