ATLANTA-Georgia State will open the 2012-13 Colonial Athletic Association schedule with defending regular season champion Drexel on Jan. 2 as the league announced conference games earlier this week.

Georgia State will play four of its first five CAA games at home, hosting James Madison (Jan. 5), Delaware (Jan. 12) and William & Mary (Jan. 16) along with the Dragons in the opener.

In between, Georgia State will travel to face Hofstra on Jan. 7.

With 11 teams in the CAA this season, each team will play eight conference opponents twice and a pair of teams just once.

For the second year in a row, George Mason will not make an appearance in Atlanta as the Panthers will travel to play the Patriots on Feb. 16 for their lone meeting of the season.

Georgia State will not travel to Newark, Del. to face the Blue Hens as the second opponent only on the home portion of the schedule.

"I am pleased with our entire schedule," commented head coach Ron Hunter. "I think it is balanced and will give us a great chance to play in the postseason for the second straight year."

With a 22-12 record last season, Georgia State advanced to the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

Following a two-game road trip to Old Dominion (Jan. 19) and Towson (Jan. 21), Georgia State will return home to face UNCW on Jan. 23.

The Panthers will return to the northeast for a pair of games, facing Drexel on Jan. 26 and Northeastern on Jan. 30 to close out the month.

GSU will open February at home against Old Dominion on Feb. 2 and then travel out to the coast to face UNCW on Feb. 6.

Towson (Feb. 9) and Hofstra (Feb. 13) will then come to the Sports Arena before Georgia State embarks on a three-game road trip.

The trip opens at George Mason on Feb. 16 and continues at William & Mary on Feb. 18. It will conclude with the Panthers final road game of the year at James Madison on Feb. 23.

Georgia State will conclude the regular season at home on Feb. 27 against Northeastern.

All CAA home games are scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. Road game times will be posted as they become available. Please note that all game times are subject to change.

The season begins with a pair of exhibition games as the Panthers will host Life on Oct. 29 and Albany State on Nov. 4.

The 2012-13 regular season opens at Duke on Nov. 9 in Durham at 7 p.m., live on ESPNU.
