ATLANTA –
The Georgia State volleyball team fell to conference foe Towson 3-0 in the 2012
season finale. With the loss, the Panthers end the regular season with a 4-20
record overall and a 2-10 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association while the
Tigers improved to 23-3 overall and 10-0 in the conference.
Senior
Jamiee Freeman was honored prior to Sunday’s match. The Decatur Ala., native
ended her career ranked in the top 10 in school history in attacks, digs with
1,310, digs per set, and aces.
Freeman was
one of three Panthers with seven kills Sunday as she joined sophomore Andrea
Book, and Eliza Zachary. Freshman Sydney Hunsley led GSU with 11 kills on the
day. Freeman also led the Panthers with 14 digs.
Freshman
setter Natalia Nieto posted 32 assists and three services aces while Book led
the panthers with two block assists and one solo block.
The Tigers
took the first set 25-15 and the second set 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead. In the
third set, GSU took an early lead and fought hard but fell to Towson 30-28.
Towson’s I’Isha
Keliiikoa led all scorers with 13 kills on the day. Tiger setter Aubrey Kirven
earned 48 assists and Marta Machos was a part of five block assists.
