TOWSON, Md. – Georgia State freshman middle blocker Eliza Zachary earned a spot on the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie team after a stellar freshman season.

“Eliza worked hard this season and deserves this honor,” said head coach Tami Audia. “She is a natural athlete and came to practice every day with a mission to get better. As she figured out the game speed, she just kept getting better and became more of a force.”

Zachary, a native of Bloomington, Minn., was named to the All-Rookie team after leading GSU and placing third in the CAA in blocking with 91 total rejections. She posted a team and conference-best 23 solo blocks and was a part of 68 block assists.

She was fourth among the Panthers in scoring with 141 total kills and led all rookies by appearing in 81 sets. Zachary posted a single-game high of 15 kills and nine total blocks (two solo and seven block assists) in the Panthers’ 3-2 win over UNCW on October 13.

She was joined on the All-Rookie team by Dessi Koleva of William & Mary, Meghan Niski of James Madison, Delaware’s Mackenzie Olsen and Ariel Shonk, and George Mason’s Lola Owokoniran. Kelly Bacon of Northeastern earned the CAA Player of the Year nod while Towson head coach Bruce Atkinson was named the CAA Coach of the Year.
