ATLANTA – The Georgia State baseball team signed four
newcomers during the 2012 early signing period. David Mayo, Ryan Blanton,
Austin Parrish, and Alex Roberts will each don the blue and white in 2014.
“We are very excited about these four young men that have
signed to play for GSU,” said head coach Greg Frady. “Each one of them
brings a unique quality that fits a need for us. All of these guys are impact
players and will be asked to contribute right away. Our staff goal was to bring
in Sun Belt Conference caliber players and I think we accomplished that."
Mayo, a shortstop and right-handed pitcher, comes to GSU
from Loganville High School in Loganville, Ga. He was named to the Georgia
Dugout Club Top 100 list and was named to the Georgia Junior team last season.
Mayo led Loganville to a GHSA AAAA state championship last season and has
pitched two perfect games in his high school career. He is a versatile athlete
who can play any position in the infield and can shut down opposing hitters as
a pitcher.
Blanton is an outfielder from Liburn, Ga. Last season he helped
lead Parkview High School to a AAAAA state championship and a Baseball America
national No. 1 ranking. A strong left-handed hitter, he has the ability to play
all three outfield positions and the GSU coaching staff is excited about his
potential as a Panther.
Parrish, a native of Ringgold, Ga., led Ringgold High School
to a Region 7 AAA title. Last season he was named a Georgia Top 100 player. He
will bring quite a bit of physical ability with a strong arm to go with his
6-2, 190 pound frame. He has seen action as both a right-handed pitcher and
outfielder.
Roberts is a junior college transfer from Dalton, Ga.
Roberts was a standout pitcher at Middle Georgia College where he a mainstay in
the starting rotation. Last season he had 14 starts with four complete games
and a 3.13 ERA.
The 2013 GSU baseball season begins February 15 as the
