JAMES MADISON MAKES FINAL VISIT TO ATLANTA
James Madison (9-7, 3-1) comes to Atlanta for the final time as GSU plays its final year in the CAA as the Panthers make the transition to FBS football instead of the FCS of the CAA
The Dukes come in having won six of their last seven games, losing by two points to Drexel. JMU is trying for an eighth straight 20-win season and eighth straight with a postseason bid (three NCAA, four WNIT).
A veteran team, JMU has two red-shirt seniors, a regular senior and a junior stalwart to lead the way, but the Dukes have a deep roster with plenty of firepower from top to bottom.
Georgia State comes in after a split in its last two games, winning Sunday on the road at Towson, but playing poorly in a Thursday home loss to Northeastern, 68-55.
As always, the game will be broadcast live on WRAS-FM (88.5) radio with Wade Smith and Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen.
GEORGIA STATE-James Madison SERIES HISTORY
Georgia State has never been able to beat James Madison in their 11 tries, coming the closesst when JMU escaped Atlanta with a buzzer-beating 63-62 win on Feb. 22, 2009.
Rebuilding under Coach Baldwin-Tener, GSU has already topped last year’s 8 wins with their 9-6 start. Always loaded JMU under veteran Brooks, the Dukes 7 losses are one shy of their season totals of the past two years and equals the total of three years ago.
A QUICK LOOK AT JAMES MADISON
Nestled in the Shenandoah Mountain valley of western Virgnia, James Madison has 19,000 students at the Harrisonburg campus.
James Madison’s leaders are 5-foot-7 senior All-CAA guard Tarik Hislop (15.3 ppg), who has scored more than 1500 points and has been an ESPN National Player of the Week this year. Junior guard Kirby Burkholder, also an All-CAA pick, averages almost 15 points a game with 46 3-point baskets to go with her eight rebounds.
DEFENSE MEANS WINS
Georgia State’s nine wins have all been started by the defense as evidenced by the points allowed,
The Panthers have held 8 opponents to 50 or fewer point this season. They’ve held 10 of the 15 opponents to 60 points or fewer.
And, Georgia State keeps the score low while playing an up-tempo fast-paced game and not a slow-down keep the score low game with ball control offense.
