ATLANTA-Georgia State redshirt-junior Manny Atkins averaged 21.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, leading the Panthers to a 2-0 week to earn CAA co-Player of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Atkins, who has scored 20 or more points in three straight games, shot 52.2 percent from the floor, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. The transfer from Virginia Tech also went a perfect 13-for-13 at the free throw line and has now made 15 straight entering Monday night’s game against Towson.

Atkins opened the week by scoring 21 points, grabbing five rebounds and swiping a career-high five steals in the Panthers 74-58 victory over William & Mary. He went a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line, helping Georgia State overcome a 14-point first half deficit.

On Saturday, Atkins led the Panthers to their first win at the Ted Constant Center, scoring 21 points with five boards in the 69-54 victory. Atkins went 6-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-6 from three-point range, while also going a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

“I am really proud of Manny and so happy that he received this honor,” commented head coach Ron Hunter. “Manny has worked extremely hard since arriving 18 months ago from Virginia Tech.

“After having to sit out a year, it took a few games for Manny to get his legs and shooting touch back, but there is no question that he has found it and will continue to work hard to lead our team the rest of the season.”

For the season, Atkins is averaging 13.8 points and 6.2 rebounds, both among the top 15 in the CAA. He is shooting 81.7 percent from the free throw line and leads the CAA in three-point field goal percentage, hitting 42.3 percent. He is also seventh in the CAA making 1.7 three-pointers per game.

Atkins was also honored Monday by College Sports Madness as the CAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his exceptional performance during the past week.

Georgia State (8-11, 3-3 CAA) will face Towson (10-9, 5-1 CAA) on Monday night in Maryland at 7 p.m.
