CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Georgia State softball team finished the USF Under Armour Invitational with a 9-3 loss to St. Joseph’s on Sunday afternoon. The loss snaps a six game winning streak for the Panthers (12-8), who went 4-1 during the tournament.

Callie Alford and Paige Nowacki both had two hits to lead GSU offensively. Alford had a two-run home run and a double, while Nowacki hit a double and an RBI single.

Alford finished the tournament with eleven RBI on five hits, which were three home runs and two doubles. The sophomore leads the team with 19 RBI.

The Panthers had a total of eight hits, but also struck out nine times, which contributed to stranding eight runners on base.

St. Joseph’s scored two runs in the first, second and sixth innings and one run in the third, fifth and seventh innings to present an evenly balanced offense. The Red Hawks picked up eleven hits.

Starting pitcher Katie Worley (5-4) exited the game during the second inning after allowing four runs. Worley took the loss in the game, but still finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.

The Panthers used three pitchers in the contest. Kaitlyn Medlam surrendered only one earned run in 3.1 innings of relief. Eron Milton pitched the final two frames and gave up three runs.

Georgia State plays a midweek non-conference game against Jacksonville State on Wednesday at the Heck Softball Complex.
