Atlanta – The Georgia State sand volleyball team will be returning to the sand this weekend as they head to Charleston, S.C., for the College of Charleston Tournament.
The Panthers (3-1) will take on UAB (3-3), Mercer (0-4) and nationally-ranked host, No. 8 Charleston (0-0) over the two-day tournament. Georgia State defeated Mercer 3-2 on March 12th.
The Panthers are currently on a three-match winning streak since dropping the inagural match in school history to Stetson at Cocoa Beach.
Charleston was ranked No. 8 in the most recent AVCA poll. This will be Georgia State’s first match-up with a ranked opponent.
“The girls have been working really hard and are ready to play this weekend,” coach Tami Audia said. “We had last weekend off, so we have been able to take what we needed to work on from the Mercer match and really refine those skills.
“I am excited to see our match-up against all of these teams, but especially College of Charleston--a team that was in the national championship last year and has been voted 8th in the AVCA poll this week.”
The Panthers will kick off the weekend with a first-time meeting against UAB at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Following the conclusion of that match, the Panthers will turn around have their re-match with Mercer at 1 p.m.
Georgia State will conclude the tournament with a 1 p.m. match with No. 8 Charleston on Sunday.
All of these are subject to weather, but they do play sand volleyball in the elements unless the lightning or other serious issues come into play.
A recap of each match will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
