HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — After splitting the Friday doubleheader, the Georgia State softball team lost the final game of a CAA series in a close 2-1 contest against Hofstra Saturday afternoon at the Hofstra Softball Stadium.

Callie Alford had two hits, a stolen base and scored a run for the Panthers in the losing effort. Jessica Clifton hit an RBI double in the seventh inning to score Alford from first base and provide the Panthers’ only run.

The game proved to be a classic pitchers’ duel between the Panthers’ Katie Worley and the Prides’ All-American Olivia Galati.

Worley (9-6) only allowed a run on four hits, but suffered the loss after 4.0 innings pitched. Eron Milton threw 2.0 innings of relief and allowed an unearned run on one hit.

Georgia State (21-11, 4-2) tallied only four hits, but limited Hofstra (18-9, 4-1) to only five hits. The Pride scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings, which proved enough for the victory.

This is the first time GSU has had consecutive losses since February 23 and has still won six of their last eight competitions.

The Panthers visit Kennesaw State on Tuesday before returning home to host a doubleheader against Furman on Wednesday.
