ATLANTA — Georgia State track and field earned a handful of top-finishes and registered several new individual PRs at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech at the George C. Griffin Track on Friday and Saturday.

On the first day of competition, Valentin Poncelet finished in second in the men’s 5,000m by only .03 of a second. In the women’s 5,000m, Jennifer Rubel placed third in a time of 18:05.27.

In the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, Anna Sinclair finished second in a new personal best of 11:04.91 and Denise Myers was fifth 11:24.81. The winner of the event was Katharine Showalter, who was running unattached because she is redshirting for Georgia State.

Niamh Kearney placed fourth in the 800m with a new PR of 2:14.46. Gabby Brooks was sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.77m.

Talia Colbert finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 56.02, which is a new personal best. The women’s 4x400m relay team consisting of Brooks, the Colbert sisters and finished in second place in a time of 3:47.75.

For the women’s shot put, Carressa Reeves and Sydney Henry placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Christina John finished seventh in the discus, with Kesean Henderson coming in 10th in the event.

Former Panther and GSU record-holder Yolanda Berryhill placed second in the discus throw while competing unattached.

The Panthers will next travel to the competitive Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. on April 4-5.
