PHILADELPHIA — Third-year head coach Roger Kincaid recorded his 100th win while in charge of the Georgia State softball program as the Panthers (31-16, 9-5) took the first two games of the CAA series at Drexel on Saturday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field.

Three walks in the first game and one more in the second gives Lauren Coleman 45 bases on balls in 2013, breaking the previous single season school record of 43 walks by Danielle Roddy in 2007.

Game 1: GSU 7, Drexel 6

Ashley Christy and Jessica Clifton both had three hits apiece as part of a 14-hit offensive effort. Clifton hit a single, double and triple to finish just a home run shy of the cycle, and also stole a base and scored a run.

GSU scored two runs in the first inning, three in the fifth and one more in each the sixth and seventh. Brenna Morrissey hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give Georgia State an early lead.

Drexel answered with four runs in the second inning, but the Panthers retook the lead by putting up three runs in the fifth inning on a two-RBI single by MeQuilla Franklin and a bases loaded walk from Taylor Anderson.

Callie Alford hit an RBI single in the sixth inning and Christy added an RBI double in the seventh to round out the scoring for GSU. The Dragons also trimmed the contest to a one-run game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Eron Milton earned her third win of the season in 3.0 innings pitched out of the bullpen. Kaitlyn Medlam also picked up her second save of 2013 by throwing 2.2 innings and striking out three batters.

Game 2: GSU 9, Drexel 0 (6 innings)

Four Panthers finished with multi-hit games, including Alford who went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.

Katie Worley allowed only one Drexel hit during her 6.0 inning shutout performance. The freshman did not allow a single walk and struck out four Dragon batters.

Georgia State scored three runs in the first, second and sixth innings to complete the run-rule victory and record the team’s seventh shutout of the season.

Christy drew two walks and stole her team-leading 17th base of the season. Morrissey also scored three runs for GSU after hitting a pair of singles.

Georgia State will attempt to complete the sweep in the CAA series with Game Three on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at the Drexel Softball Field.
