The newest improvement to the Georgia State Sports Arena is complete with the opening of an escalator to transport patrons directly to and from the third-floor arena.
Georgia State President Carl Patton, Director of Athletics Mary McElroy and Rob Dunn of New South Construction participated in Tuesday's ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The glass-enclosed structure originates at the northwest corner of the Sports Arena, near the intersection of Collins Street and Decatur Street, running from street level to the third floor and back.
The escalator is the final phase of a University-sponsored improvement project for the Sports Arena that also included the addition of new restrooms at the north end of the third floor as well as upgrades to the fourth-floor concession areas.
"We are thankful to Dr. Patton and the University leadership for providing these upgrades to the Sports Arena, especially our new escalator," said McElroy. "These amenities will improve our game-day experience and add convenience and comfort for our students, alumni and fans."
