ATLANTA-Georgia State University is launching a new brand for athletics, including a makeover for the panther logo and new "Georgia State" and "GSU" word marks.

The new primary marks were unveiled as part of Georgia State's "Countdown to Touchdown" held Wednesday, exactly one year before the Panthers historic inaugural first football game, which will be played Sept. 2, 2010.

Georgia State's primary colors remain blue and white, with accents of black and red.

The new Pounce logo is a more fierce and lifelike image of the panther. The "GSU" logo features white lettering and a red underscore on a blue blackground, all outlined in white. This logo will adorn the Panthers' blue football helmets.

"With the exposure that football is generating, this was the perfect time to update our marks and create a dynamic overall identity for Georgia State athletics," said Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick. "We think our students, alumni and fans will be really proud to show off these new looks."

Apparel featuring the new logos is currently available at the Georgia State Bookstore and on-line at GeorgiaStateSports.com. A more complete array of items will roll out this fall, in time for holiday shopping.
