The Georgia State baseball team added four student-athletes who signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Greg Frady announced on Thursday.  The group is made up of four pitchers who will be on campus starting next fall.

"Coming into this fall, we placed a huge emphasis on our recruitment of pitchers," commented head coach Greg Frady. "I think we hit the target, signing four pitchers with different ages. Some will give us immediate help, while others allow us to continue to build for the future. "Individually, the four signees have have great arms and I think will contribute greatly to our team."

Sam Agnew-Wieland, RHP, 6-3, 195 lbs., R/L

       Marietta, Ga. (Wheeler HS)

Tyler Claburn, RHP, 6-3, 190 lbs., R/R

       Peachtree City, Ga. (Wallace-Dothan JC/Starr's Mill HS)

Jake Dyer, RHP, 6-1, 195 lbs., R/R

       Conyers, Ga. (Georgia Perimeter JC/Salem HS)

Cole Outz, RHP, 6-6, 208 lbs., R/R

       Warner Robins, Ga. (Young Harris JC/Warner Robins HS)

Georgia State enters the 2010 season coming off a record-shattering year in which the Panthers won its first CAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Atlanta Regional for the first time in school history. The Panthers won the most games in school history (39) and saw five members earn all-conference honors, as well as five earn all-tournament honors. The group of signees will start to replace a group of three seniors who will graduate after the 2010 season.

Sam Agnew-Wieland

Sam will enter Georgia State in the fall as a graduate of Wheeler High School in Marietta, where he played for Dave McDonald ... Agnew-Wieland earned Cobb All-County First Team honors last season, while also being named to the Georgia Dugout Club Top 100 and Region 6-AAAAA All-Region team ... Finished his junior season with a 6-3 record along with a 3.20 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 63.3 innings pitched ...Sam is one of two children to Hubert Wieland and Mary Agnew ... He is undecided on his major.

Frady on Agnew-Wieland: "I am really excited about this freshman pitcher. He has a very good arm, solid breaking pitches and good change-up. We will start to groom him  immediately for a future rotation spot."

Tyler Claburn

Claburn will come to Georgia State with two years of eligibility remaining after a pair of seasons at Wallace Community College in Dothan, Ala., playing for former major league catcher Macky Sasser ... The native of Peachtree City, Ga. played at Starr's Mill High School for coach Brent Moseley before going to Wallace ... Last season, he made 18 appearances, throwing 60.3 innings, while holding opponents to a .207 batting average and striking out 50, walking just 20 batters ... At Starr's Mill, he was a member of Beta Club and the National Honor Society, while also making the Principal's Honor List with a 4.0 GPA ... Tyler is one of two children to Shannon and Denise Claburn ... He intends to major in chemistry, specifically chemical engineering.

Frady on Claburn: "Tyler comes in with a great deal of high-level experience and should challenge for a weekend spot from the start. He has a big arm and a lot of run on his fastball. I think he will become a strong professional prospect."

Jake Dyer

Dyer will have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins Georgia State after a two seasons at nearby Georgia Perimeter, playing for coach Danny Blue ... A native of Conyers, Ga., Dyer played for coach Mike Phiel and Chris Davis at Salem High School ... During his senior season, Dyer went 10-3 with a 1.67 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 71 innings pitched ... He finished high school with the most wins in school history (19) second most strikeouts (145) in a career, as well as the second lowest ERA (1.88) in the history of the school ... Dyer was named the 2008 Rockdale Citizen Pitcher of the Year, while earning all-region and Georgia Dugout Club Elite '96 honors ... During his junior year, Dyer went 6-2 with a 1.78 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched ... In that same season, he earned first team all-region honors and was named to the Georgia Dugout Club Top 100 ... Jake is the oldest of two children to Jack and Lisa Dyer ... He plans on majoring in exercise science.

Frady on Dyer: "I am excited about Jake because he has a lot of experience, both going deep into the high school playoffs and at the junior college level. He is a very versatile pitcher and can pitch from any spot within our rotation. He has a good breaking ball and solid recovery ability which is very important."

Cole Outz

Cole Outz will be a sophomore when he steps onto campus next fall after a season at Young Harris Community College ... Outz graduated from Warner Robins High School last May and will play the upcoming spring season at Young Harris ... Last year, Cole went 2-1 on the mound with a sub 3.0 ERA for Warner Robins High ... Cole is one of two children to Richard and Susan Outz ... Plans to major in sports management at Georgia State.

Frady on Outz: "Cole is a big, strong right-hander with a lot of velocity. He has a  tremendous upside with three years of eligibility remaining and will fit nicely into the rotation."

The four complete Georgia State's early signing class, but Frady and the Panthers will add to the group in the spring when the late signing period begins in mid-April.
