Pounce, Georgia State's #1 Fan, is always on the prowl! You can find Pounce at GSU Football and Basketball games, as well as other athletic events. He also takes time to attend a variety of campus and community events.
Pounce is one of the most recognizable and beloved mascots in the Atlanta area. He has become a centerpiece for the continued growth and expansion of Georgia State Athletics. Whether Pounce is center court or in center field, fans and players alike eagerly anticipate his fun and exciting performances.
Always "ON THE PROWL", Pounce serves as an integral part of the community programs of Georgia State Athletics. He makes appearances at various schools, hospitals, and charity events throughout the city. When taking time out for himself, Pounce enjoys dancing, playing, exploring the Atlanta Zoo, and merely lying back at home watching ESPN.
History of Pounce
Pounce has been an integral part of Georgia State's history since athletics joined the NCAA in 1963-64.
Once an evening college, the GSU logo mascot was an owl from 1940 to 1947. At this time, the nickname was changed to the Ramblers. In 1963 the name Panthers was selected by the students for Georgia State. However, there was not an official mascot at games and events until 1989, when Urbie, a crimson panther was born. Urbie didn't last too long either. In 1993, Pounce, a blue panther was created. Pounce has had a few makeovers over the years. After his most recent makeover, he debuted on December 22, 2009 at a men's basketball game vs. Georgia Southern. Pounce was certainly a vital part of the start of GSU Football in 2010.
