Darryl Lyons joined Georgia State during the 2010-11 school year to oversee the Cheerleaders and Spirit Teams.

Lyons is a veteran of 18 years in cheerleading, spending four previous years in the metro Atlanta area at Clayton State University.

Previously, Lyons served as the head coach of the Mississippi State Spirit program from 2003-2005. He was also a coach and assistant Spirit Coordinator at the University of Arkansas from 2001-03.

Lyons coached the nationally-ranked Drury (Mo.) University cheerleaders for seven seasons, capturing a 1999 national championship at the American Spirit College Nationals.

He spent five years as a head instructor for the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA). Lyons has served as a national competition judge at numerous cheer competitions around the nation, including NCA, UCA, Cheersport, All-Star Challenge and the JamBrands companies. He has coached at multiple summer camps at all levels.

Lyons graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1990, spending two years as a student-athlete cheerleader.
