Dr. Richard "Dick" Wehr, former Georgia State basketball and golf coach, died Dec. 1, 2011 at the age of 85.

Wehr coached the Georgia State men's basketball team in its earliest years, serving from 1964-67. He then spent nearly two decades as the head coach of the Panthers' men's golf program.

He also served as chairman of the Physical Education department. In 1986, he retired from GSU after 22 years as Professor Emeritus.

Born in Caldwell, Ohio, Wehr played professional basektball for the Indianapolis Jets and the Wheeling (W.Va.) Blues.

Wehr is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sara (Sally) Henderson Wehr, two sons and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1438 Sheridan Road NE, Atlanta. The family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 5 from 5-7 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Son, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Camp Westminster, c/o Westminster Presbyterian Church.
