ATLANTA — The Georgia State softball team has added five signees during the early signing period, head coach Roger Kincaid announced Wednesday.
Mandy Blackwell, Morgan Brown, Kensey Caldwell, Mallory Koepke and Megan Litumbe comprise the GSU softball signing class for 2013. These student-athletes will begin their Panther careers during the 2014 season.
A catcher from Brookwood High School, Blackwell was named the Gwinnett County Player of the Year in 2012 and was a two-time All-State selection. She holds a number of school career records including at bats (457), hits (183), doubles (41) and RBI (139).
An outfielder from Walnut Grove High School, Brown was a three-time All-Region selection and the region Player of the Year in 2011. She led Walnut Grove to an Elite Eight finish in the state playoffs during the 2010 season.
Caldwell played middle infield for Loganville High School. The team MVP in 2011, she has been named first team All-State, All-Region and All-County. Caldwell holds single-season school records for hits (59), home runs (6) and walks (18).
Koepke comes to Georgia State after playing middle infield for North Gwinnett High School, who she led to a 7-AAAAAA Regional Championship in 2012. She also competed in volleyball and track, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA and earning a bevvy of academic awards.
A teammate of Blackwell at Brookwood, Litumbe is a two-time first team All-Region player. The outfielder was also named All-State and All-County during the 2011 season. Brookwood earned consecutive Elite Eight appearances in 2011 and 2012.
The Panthers return 15 letterwinners from a 2012 team that finished with a record of 38-18. Kincaid enters his third season in charge of the GSU program. The 2013 season begins in February.
