Birmingham, Ala.--The No. 75-ranked Georgia State men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 match at UAB on Wednesday afternoon in Birmingham, Ala.

The Panthers (8-7) could not climb back from an early deficit after dropping the doubles point to the Blazers (12-7). GSU sophomore Sofiane Chevallier won a lone singles match with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 6 position against Lucas Dirube. Chevallier, the No. 17-ranked player in the ITA Southeast Regional Singles rankings, has now won two of his last three singles matches.

Georgia State senior Lucas Santa Ana also won his singles match, 4-6, 6-0, 3-0 after his opponent retired in the third set. The win was Santa Ana's second-consecutive, three-set victory and his first in the No. 2 slot this season. He improved his singles record to 8-7 this season.

GSU fell at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles positions to drop the doubles point. The senior tandem of Lucas Santa Ana and Victor Valente, who set a school record by earning the No. 38 ranking in the ITA National Doubles rankings, played to an unfinished result in the top doubles spot. The duo is 12-0 this season in doubles play.

Santa Ana was en route to a comeback victory when his match was stopped. He led 3-0 in the third set after dropping the first set 6-4 and winning the second set 6-0. Junior Robert Schulze was also in his third set when his match was stopped. Valente had his six-match winning streak in singles play halted by UAB senior David Zimmerman, falling 6-3, 6-3.

Georgia State, led by first-year head coach Joerg Barthel, returns home for a 10 a.m. match against North Florida on Monday at the Blackburn Tennis Center. Visit the men's tennis page on GeorgiaStateSports.com for a preview of the match.
