Men's Tennis places Three on All-Sun Belt teams
Lafayette, La.—Seniors Victor Valente and Lucas Santa Ana along with junior Robert Schulze earned All-Sun Belt honors to highlight the Georgia State men’s tennis team’s haul at the Sun Belt Conference awards banquet on Wednesday night.
Valente was a double honoree on both the All-Sun Belt First Team Singles and Doubles teams. Valente is the second-highest ranked singles player in the Sun Belt Conference at No. 89 in the latest ITA National Singles rankings. He owns a 16-4 singles record this season with a 6-2 mark against nationally-ranked singles opponents. He enters the Sun Belt Conference Championship on a three-match winning streak in singles play.
Valente and Santa Ana broke several school records as the top doubles pair for Georgia State this season. The two set school records for highest ranking achieved and highest nationally-ranked victory en route to First Team honors. The duo owns a 13-1 record this season including a 7-1 mark in the No. 1 position. The two are ranked No. 43 in the latest ITA National Doubles rankings and went 3-0 against Sun Belt doubles opponents.
Schulze was a consistent performer for GSU this season, earning a 14-7 record in singles play and 9-7 mark in doubles en route to All-Sun Belt Second-Team Singles laurels. He played everywhere from the No. 3 to 6 positions in the singles lineup and in all three doubles positions. He is ranked No. 8 in the ITA Southeast Regional Doubles rankings with his partner, sophomore Sofiane Chevallier.
