Lafayette, La.—The Georgia State women’s tennis team fell to North Texas by a narrow 4-2 margin in the Sun Belt Conference Championship finals following a grueling, four-hour match on Sunday.

Georgia State (8-11) could not mount a comeback in singles after dropping the doubles point. The match came down to the final two singles matches at the No.2 and 6 positions. Sophomore Masa Grgan took a one-set advantage but could not close out the match, falling 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 to North Texas’ Barbora Vykydalova to end the match.

Junior Abigail Tere-Apisah and freshman Linn Timmermann were both named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Championship team following the match. Both recorded two-set victories in the finals. Timmermann was first off the court with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 4 singles position. She capped her freshman season with eight singles victories.

Tere-Apisah extended her win streak in singles play to three matches with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at the top position. She is ranked No. 41 in the ITA National Singles rankings and will now prepare for the NCAA Singles Championship held in May.
