PHILADELPHIA — Georgia State scored eight runs in the fifth inning to defeat Drexel 9-0 in five innings and sweep all three games of the CAA series on the road on Sunday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field.

Now on a six-game winning streak, the Panthers (32-16, 10-5) sent twelve batters to the plate in the watershed fifth inning in which they scored eight runs on only three hits. The Panthers took advantage of two Dragon errors and five walks in the frame.

Kaitlyn Medlam gave up only one hit to Drexel (12-32, 0-15) as part of the 5.0 inning shutout. The victory was Medlam’s team-leading 17th of the season and came in her fifth shutout of 2013.

GSU scored their only other run of the contest on a Taylor Anderson RBI double in the fourth inning that scored Callie Alford from second base.

Brenna Morrissey and Lauren Coleman each had two hits for GSU and Ashley Christy added two RBI and two runs scored. Christy, Alford and Anderson each drew a pair of walks, as part of eight total bases-on-balls earned by GSU.

The sweep was the second of the season for the Panthers after taking three games from George Mason at home to start the conference schedule.

Georgia State will play their final non-conference game against the University of Georgia on Wednesday, April 24 before returning to Panthersville for their final home series of the season against Delaware.
