ELON, N.C. - Senior Thomas Cook and freshman Christian Gochnauer advanced in their respective singles draws of the Elon Invitational. 

In the A1 singles draw, Cook defeated USC Upstate's Pedro Carvalho 6-4, 6-0 in the first round. Up next for Cook is NC Central's Daniil Gerasimov, who Cook will face at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Also in the A1 singles draw, junior Sofiane Chevallier lost in three sets to James Madison's Sebastian Salinas 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. He will face Georgia Southern's Marco Osorio in the A1 consolation draw at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In the B1 singles draw, sophomore Chinmay Handa lost to James Madison's Niels Kathol 6-4, 6-1. Handa will next face UNC-Asheville's John Schubel at 1:30 on Saturday in B1 singles consolation draw.

Gochnauer moved won his first B2 singles round with a 6-2, 6-0 win. He then edged James Madison's Mason Smith 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5). He will face Elon's Dan Sablik in the quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Both of Georgia State's doubles teams lost their opening round matches. Cook and Chevallier lost Landau/Croker of UNC-Asheville 8-4 in the A1 doubles draw. Cook and Chevallier will now face Elon's Kowalski/Kaufman in the consolation quarterfinals. 

In the B1 doubles draw, Handa and Gochnauer lost to James Madison's Berdnikoff/Kathoi 8-2. Up next for the Panther pair is Tennessee Tech's Lima/Jain.
