Men's Tennis Improves on Second Day of Charleston Challenge

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Georgia State men's tennis team improved on the second day of play at the Charleston Challenge. The Panthers went 1-1 in doubles play, while senior Thomas Cook advanced to the finals in the consolation singles draw.

In doubles play, Robert Schulze and Jannis Koeke defeated Virginia Tech's Rafael Ribas and Nicholas Wilson 8-4. Valentin Horvat and Cook lost to College of Charleston's Charlie Ghriskey and Matt Daly 8-7.

In singles, Horvat lost to Ribas 6-2, 6-4. Schulze lost to Virginia Tech's Colbatt 6-4, 7-6. Cook defeated Koeke 2-6, 6-3, 6-0. With the win, Cook will play in the singles consolation draw final on Sunday.

"We played a lot better today and were more aggressive," head coach Joerg Barthel said. "We look forward to a strong finish tomorrow."

The Panthers will conclude their final day of fall play Sunday.
