TAMPA, Fla. -  The No. 65 women's tennis team defeated VCU 4-3 in a neutral site match at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla. The Panthers won four singles matches, including another win for No. 13 Abigail Tere-Apisah over a Top 125 opponent.

Tere-Apisah, at No. 1 singles for the Panthers, defeated No. 110 Cindy Chala in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. This was the 11th win over a ranked-opponent this season.

Tere-Apisah, along with Masa Grgan as the No. 16 doubles team in the nation, picked up a hard-fought win over Olga Barscheuskaya and Daria Yakauleva with a 9-8 (9-7) win. They were the only Panther pair to win their match.

At No. 3 singles, Linn Timmermann defeated Yakauleva 6-4, 6-4. At No. 5 singles, Maryna Kozachenko defeated Ludivine Burguiere 7-6, 2-6, 6-2. At No. 6 singles, Chaimaa Roudami defeated Olga Terteac 6-3, 6-2.

"Today was a total team effort," head coach Robin Stephenson said. "After losing the doubles point and getting down 3-0, we did not back down. All four players left on the court fought their hearts out to get this win for us. I am especially proud of our senior, Maryna, for clinching the win in a three-set battle when it came down to her. We are excited to get back on the courts tomorrow against USF."

The Panthers will be back in action Sunday at 11 a.m. against No. 46 USF.
