TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 65 Georgia State women's tennis team fell to No. 46 South Florida Sunday afternoon. The Panthers won the doubles point, but lost four singles matches.
Georgia State started off the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. The No. 16 pair of Abigail Tere-Apisah and Masa Grgan defeated Loreto Alonso-Martinez and Kayla Rizzolo 8-3. At No. 3 doubles, Linn Timmermann and Chaimaa Roudami defeated Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez 8-4.
Following the doubles point, the Panthers struggled to find success in singles, including No. 13 Tere-Apisah. Tere-Apisah lost to Alonso-Martinez 6-2, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Grgan lost to Rizzolo 6-1, 6-3.
At No. 3 singles, Timmermann fell to Olaya Garrido-Rivas 7-6, 6-1. At No. 5 singles, Maryna Kozachenko lost to Bessonova 6-4, 6-4.
The Panthers have one more match scheduled before the Sun Belt Conference Championship in New Orleans, La.
