The Georgia State Panthers Spirit Program, consisting of the Coed and All-Girl cheer teams, the Pantherettes dance team and the team of Pounce mascots, attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and Universal Dance Association (UDA) College Spirit Camp held at The a University of Alabama July 17-20.
At the camp, the teams learned new cheers, sideline chants, stunts, pyramids, and dance routines to prepare for the season ahead. The teams also attended leadership workshops where the roles and responsibilities of college cheerleaders, dancers, and mascots were discussed.
In the camp competitions, The Coed team received a Superior Trophy for overall performance, as well as the "Game Plan" Award for being organized and prepared to lead their fans from the sidelines.
The All-Girl cheer team received a 7th place trophy for their cheer, as well as a Superior trophy for overall performance. The Pantherettes received first place in both the "Home routine" Award and the "Fight Song" routine competitions. Team Pounce received an overall program improvement award, as well as a Superior Trophy.
The UCA camp is one of the largest attended camps in the nation with more 2,000 participants. Other noteworthy schools in attendance were Florida, Florida State, LSU, Temple, Oklahoma, UNLV, UCF, USF, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Memphis, UAB and Alabama. Four Sun Belt Confrence member schools in attendance were Troy, South Alabama, UL-Lafayette, and UL-Monroe.
The Panther Spirit teams are excited to kick off the season at the Georgia Dome on Friday September 4 with the 3:30 game vs. Charlotte!
