NEW ORLEANS - Georgia State's women's basketball lost to South Alabama Tuesday in the opening round of the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Panthers finish the season 12-18.
Georgia State missed a 3-pointer that would’ve tied the game with a little more than two seconds left Tuesday night. The Panthers fought hard to pull the game back within reach after falling behind by 13 in the third quarter. Jada Lewis scored eight points in the third period to spark a 15-2 run that tied the game going into the final period.
The Panthers took a one-point lead with a 1:34 left, but South Alabama used a 7-1 run that sealed the game.
Tiffany Holston recorded one last double-double in her final game as a Panther, scoring 14 points with 11 rebounds. Astaja Tyghter and Jada Lewis joined Holston in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Tyghter also had six rebounds and four steals in 25 minutes of action.
Georgia State’s season ends with a 12-18 record overall. The Panthers will return six players that played Tuesday night.
