Former National Football League player Daniel Wilcox is joined the Georgia State program as Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting in February 2017.
A nine-year NFL veteran, Wilcox joined head coach Shawn Elliott's first staff at Georgia State after one season as an assistant coach at Georgia Military College, the highly successful junior college program in Milledgeville, Ga. He previously coached four years at the prep level as an assistant at Decatur, Tucker and Grady High Schools in the Atlanta area.
After a standout playing career as a tight end at Appalachian State, Wilcox signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2001. He moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002, and was a member of the Super Bowl XXXVII champions.
A stint in NFL Europe with the Rhein Fire followed before he began a five-year run with the Baltimore Ravens in 2004, enjoying his most productive seasons with the Ravens. His NFL statistics include 76 career receptions for 576 yards and eight touchdowns. He was a finalist Byron "Whizzer" White NFL Man of the Year Award by the National Football League Players Association in 2008.
Wilcox completed the NFL/NCAA Coaching Academy in 2009 and the NFL's Broadcast Bootcamp in 2007.
An Atlanta native, Wilcox attended Decatur High School and Georgia Military College before going to Appalachian State, where he earned All-America honors in 2000. He was inducted into the Appalachian State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.
Wilcox earned his degree from Appalachian State in communication/advertising in 2010. He is married to the former Shauna Chin and has two sons, Julian, 7, and Tristan, 12.
