ATLANTA- Georgia State women's soccer head coach Ed Joyce announced its 2017 schedule Tuesday morning. The schedule is highlighted by two in-state non-conference matches against Kennesaw State and Mercer, as well as five home Sun Belt matches.

“We are very excited for the 2017 season,” said Joyce. “We feel that our non-conference schedule will prepare our young team well for Sun Belt play.”

The Panthers will open the season with two exhibition matches, splitting time between home and road play. The team will travel to Charlotte, N.C. on Aug. 7 to face the 49ers before returning home to host Presbyterian College on Aug. 12.

Following exhibition play, the Panthers will open the regular season slate in Birmingham, Ala. against UAB on Aug. 18. Georgia State will then open the home schedule with back-to-back matches in Panthersville, hosting Kennesaw State and SE Louisiana on Aug. 20 and Aug. 25, respectively.

The team will then hit the road for a four-match road stretch, the longest stretch of away matches this season. GSU will play Jacksonville State on Aug. 27, before heading to Tennessee to face Austin Peay and Tennessee Tech to open September play. Georgia State will play at Mercer on Sept. 8 to close out the road trip.

The final non-conference match-up will be against the Chattanooga Mocs on Sept. 10 in the first meeting between the teams.

Opening the conference slate at home, the Panthers will face Texas State and Appalachian State on Sept. 15 and Sept. 17, respectively. The team will then hit the road to close out September play, facing UL Monroe on Sept. and South Alabama on Sept. 24.

GSU will host the Ragin' Cajuns on Oct. 1, before closing out road play with a three-match road stretch. The team will travel to Coastal Carolina on Oct. 5 and Troy on Oct. 12 for a pair of Thursday matches, with the final road match at rival Georgia Southern on Oct. 15.

Georgia State will be at home to close out the regular season, hosting Arkansas State on Oct. 20 and Little Rock for senior day on Oct. 22.

The Sun Belt Championship will be hosted by the Sun Belt in Foley, Ala., at the Foley Sports Complex from Nov. 1-5, this year. The team looks to advance to tournament play for the first time under Joyce.

The Panthers will return 15 players from last year's squad, and welcome 16 newcomers to a team that went 5-6-6 overall and 4-2-3 at home. The team ranked No. 23 in the country last season with a .529 shutout percentage, second in the Sun Belt.
