ATLANTA - Georgia State's cross country team, led by head coach Chris England, will start its 2017 season Saturday at the Queen City Invitational, hosted by Xavier.

The meet is scheduled to begin with the men's 5k at 9 a.m. at VOA Park in West Chester, Ohio. The women's 5k will follow and is expected to start around 9:30.

"Competing in Ohio allows us to compete against a different set of opponents than who we're used to seeing," England said. "Change in scenery and competition should be good for our team as we start the year."

Georgia State will be going up against Xavier, Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton, Wright State and Kentucky State.

GSU returns sophomore Angela Alonso who was named All-Sun Belt last season in her first campaign with the Panthers. Alonso is one of six returning student-athletes. Lotte Meyberg joined Georgia State last spring and competed on the track, but this season will be her first with the cross country squad.
