ATLANTA- Georgia State women’s tennis is on the road this weekend for the Metroplex Mania tournament hosted by SMU. The three-day tournament will take place Friday-Sunday at the SMU Tennis Complex in Dallas, Texas. The first two days will see play begin at noon eastern, action will start at 10 a.m. Sunday.
This weekend will mark the first time GSU has traveled with a full roster this fall. Last weekend Ilona Golynker, Daniela Ramirez, and Damira Muminović participated in an event at Georgia Southern. The Panthers had a great showing in Statesboro, as Ramirez defeated Muminović in the Blue Division singles finals.
“This is the first tournament in a while for a lot of the girls, some of them had limited match play in the summer”, said Panther head coach Jason Marshall. “It will be a good test to see where we are at in terms of our level and our fitness on the court, and that is the most important thing about fall play.”
Headlining this weekend’s eight-team tournament field is Texas A&M who advanced to the round of sixteen in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The Panthers will also see Sun Belt foes, UT Arlington and UL Monroe.
The trip to Dallas is the only event GSU will play out of state this fall. The Panthers will participate at the ITA Championships in Athens, October 19-23. GSU hosts the Piedmont Invitational on October 27-29. Georgia State will return to the Classic City to round out the fall season at the Bulldog Invitational in November.
