ATLANTA - Football standout Glenn Smith was named this week's GSU Student-Athlete of the Week, powered by the U.S. Marines, after his performance in GSU's road win at Coastal Carolina Saturday.

Smith returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to send the Panthers on their way to a 27-21 victory at Coastal Carolina in Georgia State's Sun Belt Conference opener. The win was GSU's second straight road victory.

The senior running back-receiver also had a 24-yard return and was the Panthers' leading rusher with 74 yards on 23 carries, including the crucial first down run that allowed Georgia State to run out the clock and seal the victory. He added three receptions for 13 yards to total a career-high 201 all-purpose yards.

He now leads the Sun Belt with a 36.2-yard average on kickoff returns and ranks sixth in the league with 102.3 all-purpose yards per game.

Smith's return is the sixth kickoff return for touchdown in GSU history and the second on the opening kickoff, following Darren McCray vs. Campbell in 2010.
