October 11, 2017
I appreciate the opportunity to share my October State of the Panthers update. As you can guess, it’s a busy and exciting time of year for Georgia State Athletics.
The decision by the American Athletic Conference and Memphis to cancel our September 30 home football game was certainly a very disappointing and frustrating occurrence, especially as we build our program and excitement of home games at Georgia State Stadium. No one is more excited about Homecoming 2017 than our athletics department staff. We are diligently working to secure
This weekend, our men’s soccer team won at Georgia Southern in the first game of the 2017-2018 Georgia State vs. Georgia Southern Rivalry Series. We are PROUD back-to-back champions of the rivalry series. I had the chance last week to visit with our team captains and one of our topics was the importance of winning the Rivalry Series for the third straight year. Details on specific games and matches are located on GeorgiaStateSports.com. Please make plans to join us and cheer loudly for the Panthers!
Believe it or not, but basketball season is just around the corner. Tickets are on sale, so please purchase yours. Look for some exciting pre-season opportunities to come watch both our men’s and women’s teams scrimmage prior to the regular season beginning less than one month from now. One exciting opportunity is our annual canned food drive at our exhibition games that benefits our on-campus Panthers Pantry.
At the end of the month, our women’s cross country team competes in the first Sun Belt Conference Championship of the season. Coach Chris England’s team is having a solid fall as Lotte Myberg won the recent Foothills Invitational at Jacksonville State and our team placed second. We look for great results from the team on October 28.
As always, if you are not a Panther Athletic Club member, please consider joining. If you are a member, please help us find other members. Every dollar helps the Georgia State student-athletes experience.
