CONWAY, S.C.- The Georgia State men’s soccer team will open Sun Belt Tournament play Saturday in the semifinals, earning a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed. The match was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon but was moved due to weather.

The Panthers will enter the tournament with a regular season record of 11-6-1 (3-1-1 SBC), falling 3-1 to Coastal Carolina in the regular season finale.

Georgia State has had an impressive season offensively, being the top scoring offense in the league and ranking 29th in the nation. The team has outscored its opponents by nearly double, with senior Rashid Alarape and junior Hannes Burmeister combining to net 17 of the team’s 33 goals.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Panthers have earned seven shutouts to lead the Sun Belt. Senior Yannic Horn leads the defensive effort in goal, holding a .750 save percentage, while defenders Liam Fitzsimmons, Kyle Clinton and George Proctor lead the defense on the back line.

The team will face either No. 3 Georgia Southern or No. 6 Appalachian State Saturday, with the quarterfinals matches concluding Friday afternoon. In regular season play, GSU defeated Georgia Southern 3-1 and played to a 0-0 double overtime draw against Appalachian State.

If the Panthers face the Eagles, the winner will earn a bonus point in the Georgia State/Georgia Southern rivalry series.

Kickoff at the Coastal Carolina Soccer Field is set for 10 a.m. Live stats and a live stream will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
