CONWAY, S.C. –  Georgia State’s women’s basketball team lost 64-49 Saturday to Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. The Panthers fall to 4-13 and 0-6 in the Sun Belt.

After falling behind early, Georgia State outscored Coastal Carolina in the second half but was unable to overcome the deficit as the Chanticleers held off the Panthers.

Georgia State struggled to get shots to fall in the first half, going just 3-for-26 from the field. The Panthers held Coastal Carolina to just 36% shooting, but the Chanticleers outrebounded GSU 30-17 and took a 31-10 lead into halftime.

Georgia State came out hot out of halftime and went on a 9-3 run, but CCU stopped the rally and kept its lead at double-digits heading into the final period.

The Panthers went on an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull within 13 points with 2:21 to go. That would be as close as they’d get, however.

Shay Fluker finished the game with 18 points and five rebounds. Janessa Murphy’s five assists led the team and Francesca Minali was the leading rebounder with 11 boards.

Georgia State returns home to host Georgia Southern next Saturday, Jan. 20, at the GSU Sports Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear white.
