ATLANTA -- The Georgia State baseball program was honored with the Phil Niekro College Scholarship Award at the Atlanta 400 Baseball Fan Club's 52nd annual winter banquet, held Saturday at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest.

Niekro, the long-time Braves pitcher and Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, to present the award to Georgia State head coach Greg Frady.

Atlanta 400 Baseball annually presents the Phil Niekro College Scholarship to a college baseball program in the state at its Gameboree, along with recognizing outstanding performances by Braves minor league players and other honors.

Also recognized at the event was former Georgia State baseball player C.J. Stewart for his efforts with youth baseball through his L.E.A.D.

"It is a tremendous honor for Georgia State Baseball to be recognized by the Atlanta Braves 400 Club and especially to receive an award from Phil Niekro, one of the all-time great pitchers in baseball," Frady said. "We appreciate their continued support of college baseball in the state of Georgia."

Frady, the winningest baseball coach in Georgia State history with more than 300 victories, is entering his 12th season at the helm of the Panther program. Opening Day is less than four weeks away as the Panthers host Bradley on Friday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex. Top returnees include two-time Academic All-America shortstop Justin Jones, catcher Nick Gatewood and pitcher Hunter Gaddis.
