Leading Off
Georgia State heads to Athens Wednesday looking for its second straight win over a ranked team. GSU walked off ranked Louisiana Sunday to beat the Ragin’ Cajuns 7-6 in the 13th inning.
Sunday’s marathon contest against the Ragin’ Cajuns equaled a GSU record for longest game. GSU rallied from down 5-2 with two outs in the seventh to force extras and then scored two in the bottom of the 13th to win it.
The win over No. 18/19 Louisiana was GSU’s first ranked win since the Panthers beat No. 13 Georgia in Athens on April 22, 2014.
In last Wednesday’s win against Mercer, senior Ivie Drake belted three home runs to tie her own single-game GSU record. She also matched the GSU single-game record with eight RBI.
Drake’s third home run on Wednesday was the 60th of her career which broke a tie with teammate Megan Litumbe for most career home runs in GSU history.
Ivie Drake was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week Tuesday after hitting four home runs in the series against Troy. Drake hit .429 with seven RBI and five runs scored. She hit a walk-off homer, two lead-off homers, and a grand slam.
Ivie Drake is 12th in NCAA DI with 13 home runs, sixth in RBI (50), 14th in slugging (.863), and 12th in total bases (101).
Megan Litumbe and Ivie Drake have hit a combined 119 career home runs, more than any other active pair of teammates in NCAA Division I.
Ivie Drake ranks third among active players in NCAA Division I with 60 career home runs. Megan Litumbe ranks fifth with 59
Ivie Drake is the only active player in Division I with both 50 or more career home runs and a career batting average over .400.
Reagan Morgan was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week on March 6 after hitting .857 with one home run, four RBI and eight runs scored. She was also honored at the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Player of the Week.
