ATLANTA- Georgia State beach volleyball’s Tiffany Creamer and Brooke Weiner have been named recipients of the first annual AVCA Top Flight Award, as announced by the association Friday morning. The title is meant to recognize “excellent performance all over the country and across all flights”. The new award is given to pairs that have won at least 75% of their matches in a given flight.
Creamer and Weiner earned the honor by delivering a 16-5 record playing in the number two flight. The duo turned in a number of wins over ranked opposition, highlighted by two victories over the number two pair from No. 7 LSU.
From March 18th through the 30th the pair did not lose, stringing together seven consecutive wins.. Creamer and Weiner finished the year by winning six of their final seven matches including three of four at the CCSA Tournament.
Individually Weiner produced a team high 26 wins on the season, ten coming in the number two flight with Annika Van Gunst. Creamer was second on the team with 25 individual wins including nine in the one flight with Teegan Van Gunst.
"We are proud of Brooke and Tiffany's consistent growth as a pair over the season and appreciate that the AVCA has found a way to honor top achieving pairs at each flight", said Panther head coach Beth Van Fleet. "Our student-athletes crave challenges and the opportunities they create to pursue excellence and Brooke and Tiffany were up to every challenge."
The duo helped propel the Panthers to a 24-12 overall record, making it the second winningest season in program history. State’s 22 regular season wins tied a program record.
